I am a huge fan of all kinds of fried chicken. I have tried
most fast food restaurants and have never really complained about any of them.
Recently a new contender in the fried chicken world has entered the Jacksonville
area and Florida for the first time ever. Jollibee has arrived from the Philippines.
I remember driving by the store as it was being built wondering what kind of restaurant
it would be hoping to try something new. Finding out it was primarily a chicken
joint I wasn’t overly excited. When I told my Filipino friend that I saw some
place called Jollibee he immediately started looking up the information to see
when it would open. He was so happy that we were getting one close by. I asked
him what was so different about it. The main thing I got out of his excitement
is that “It’s like the Filipino McDonalds but for chicken”! Naturally I was
curious.
I went during the opening week and the wait was around an
hour! I had never seen anything like this before at a fast food restaurant. I
met a family that had been staying in a hotel for a whole week from South Carolina,
that’s dedication. People were eating Jollibee for breakfast lunch and dinner
they said. I went back the other week and was reminded why this place has so
many fans. I got their two piece spicy fried chicken with two sides, crispy
fries and rice with gravy. The flakiness of the chicken skin is amazing and it
is oh so juicy. The spices that they season the spicy chicken are honestly the
main reason I would come back again and again. They also have other interesting
dishes that would be comfort food for some fans such as boba teas, chicken
palabok and fried chicken with spaghetti! If you want to have some exotic fried
check experience then come check this place out!
